What do you do for a living? Police Officer
When did you start collecting? Hmmmm. Actually around 1990. Way back then I held onto my
87 RL20II and told girlfriend (now wife) that someday if I had a son, I would restore it for him. Other
than that, I really started around spring of 2002.
What originally got you started? I was surfing the web for pics of old bikes. I found Alan's Old
School BMX site. I saw that they had Haro Master f/f sets, NOS. I saw they had 85, 87 team (my all
time favorite bike and color), and 88 in the cool azz mint/turquoise color. I didn't know what NOS
meant, but when I found out, I hemmed and hawed for about 3 weeks before ordering all 3. Figured
it might be my last chance to get them. Glad I did, the 87 team is extremely hard to find now in NOS
condition.
How long have you been collecting? If you count the Redline that I've had since 89, about 15
yrs. LOL. But realistically, I've been "seriously" collecting for about 2 1/2 yrs now.
What is your favorite bike to collect? Favorite, hmmm. That's tough. I have 5 Haro Masters and
have sold 1 other. So you might say that one, but all the bikes in my collection so far have special
meaning to me. The old Schwinn Freeforms were the first freestyle bikes my buddy and I owned.
The TrickStar was my first real quality bike. The Haros...well, I rode for them. The Rl20II's were the
hoy grail of freestyle bikes back then. I guess the only fair way to answer is to say that the one I'm
working on at the time is my favorite.
What is your current restoration project? Actually, my current project isn't really a restoration.
I'm taking my 99 Redline FS880 and making it into a full-blown retro-new school RL20II tribute bike. I
hope it comes out as cool as I imagine. The RL20II decals really made a huge difference. I've also
got a blue 86 Master f/f to do someday.
How many bikes do you have in your collection? Counting the Starsky that I ride and my son's
Starsky that's hidden in the attic, 15.
Is there any one bike that brings back special memories? Man, they all do. Like I said, they
all hold special meaning to me. Probably the 87 Team Master. Every time, I look over at that cool
azz neon yellow/black paint I'm right back in 1987 tearing up the tennis courts. What a cool bike.
Is there a bike that you don't have that you still want to build?: Bunches. I still want to do a GT Pro
Performer, a Dyno Compe, a Skyway Street Beat, and an original Haro Freestyler. But I'd also like to
do some race bikes. I always wanted a PK Ripper when I was a kid, so one of those. And also a
Quadangle, just because it's such a unique design.
What was your first restore? The first actual "restore" would be the 87 RL20II. The others were
NOS f/f sets that I just bought parts for and built up. Didn't really have to "restore" anything on those.
What was your very first bike that you can remember riding as a kid?: Columbia BMX is the first bike
that I can remember the name of. I had a couple junkers before that. First real bike I rode was an 85
Schwinn Predator Freeform Z.
Any last comments you would like to say to every one? Thanks to all the VBMX guys. Some
have supplied parts, others have given me leads on stuff I was looking for. I thoroughly enjoy
everyone's company. My extended family. LOL. And thanks to you Mark, for going the extra mile
with all of this.
