What do you do for a living?
Sales manager at auto dealership
When did you start collecting?
I started freestyling when I was around 13 years old, so
I guess that's when I first started collecting a few bikes
and some odds and ends. I have been more seriously
collecting for about the last 5 years.
What is your favorite bike to collect?
That is obvious. The Redline RL-20 II. It is
the main bike that I wanted as a kid, but
could not float the $700 bill for a loaded up
one. I could build and keep many RL-20
II's and never get bored.
What is your current restoration project?
A complete NOS California red RL-20 II, a
1986 Haro Master, and a very special Hutch
Trickstar.
How many bikes do you have in your
collection?
It fluctuates since I sell some here and
there to make room and money for new
projects, but I would say right now about
10 complete bikes, and about 10 frame
sets. I also have a bunch of boxes full of
old parts. Some NOS and awesome,
some used and battered.
What was your first restore?
My first restore was a 1985 white RL-20
II. When I was young, this is the bike that I
rode forever after my 1986 Haro Master
was put out to pasture. One day I noticed
that it was looking shabby so I fully
restored it, and this is the bike that I still
ride today. The flight cranks on it are the
same ones I rode on when I
first had the bike!
What was your very first bike that you
can remember riding as a kid?
I had numerous crappy bikes when I was real
young. One I remember was some kind of
blue Schwinn with a banana seat. But, my first
real BMX bike was a Roger Decoster. This
Roger Decoster was the bike I rode when I
met my first riding buddy who is still my best
friend over 20 years later.
Any last comments you would like to say to every one?
I have to say that collecting these old freestyle bikes and being a member of VBMX
really brings me a lot of fun and enjoyment. In chatting with a lot of fellow oldschoolers, it seems like
we all have a lot in common. It's good stress relief to get on the site and have fun remembering a
time when all that mattered was riding. Take care and let's all have fun!
What originally got you started?
When I was young, I mostly collected broken and/or obsolete bikes and parts that I wasn't using.
When I started seriously collecting, I wanted to build some of the bikes that I loved when I was a kid,
but didn't have them, or could not afford them.
How long have you been collecting?
On and off since I was 13, but seriously for
the last 5 years.
Is there any one bike that brings back special memories?
The 1986 Haro Master that I am building right now has special meaning to me since
it was the first real quality freestyle bike I bought as a kid. I had to
mow a bunch of lawns to get it!
Is there a bike that you don't have that
you still want to build?
I have built and collected just about all the
bikes that I set out to do, but I have always
wanted an NOS lavender Kuwahara
Exhibitionist frame set. I always loved the
twin top and bottom tubes.
