What do you do for a living?
I work in the telecommunications industry
When did you start collecting?
aprox 1999
What originally got you started?
I was in a local cycle shop buying new bike for my son when I saw a second hand Kuwahara
Nova for sale, needless to say both my son and I ended up walking away with bikes.
How long have you been collecting?
I guess since 1999 though I now have pretty
much sold my entire collection now, I stopped
seriously collecting around a year ago
though I still have a couple of projects on the
go and still keep a watchful eye on ebay etc
What is your favorite bike to collect?
I never really had a particular bike though I
have always been partial to Skyway Bikes
and also SE Racing
What is your current restoration project?
I am in the middle of bringing back a Mark 1
R Gusset Raleigh Pro Burner, I have wanted
one of these since I was about 13 and finally
found one a month or so ago, then the next
week I found another so I currently have one
up for sale.
How many bikes do you have in your
collection?
Nowadays just one, a skyway TA and
my pro burner frame and forks but at
the high point of my collecting days it
was approx 25 bikes and about 50
frame and fork sets
Is there any one bike that brings back special memories?
It would have to be the orange skyway streetbeat that Neil ruffell rode in the kelloggs
bmx series, I was blown away not only by Neils riding but how beautiful the bike looked,
I couldn't afford one back then but a couple of years ago I built up a replica which
turned out well, now Neil has sadly passed away I kind of wished I had kept the bike but
thats just one of those things I guess.
Is there a bike that you don't have that
you still want to build?
I want to find a 86/87 Haro Master the one
with the black front blue middle and chrome
rear end. Its proving to be quite an elusive
frame but I will get one, one day
What was your first restore?
My first restore was the Kuwahara Nova, it
was so rough when I bought it I ended up
throwing all the parts that were on it and
repainting the f+F myself, I remember how
proud I was of the end result but looking
back it was quite an amateur job. lol
What was your very first bike that you
can remember riding as a kid?
It was some sort of 3 wheeled trike, thats my
earliest memory but my first bmx was a blue
and yellow raleigh burner that my parents
bought me for easter, I tricked it out with blue
OGK wheels, whitewall tyres, Cobra grips and
a Type 77 number plate, I thought it looked
so cool. Unfortunately so did somebody else
as it was stolen not long after.
Any last comments you would like to say to every one?
Only that VBMX has introduced me into meeting many many amazing people. I have made some
incredible friendships and am constantly amazed at peoples generosity and kindness.
