About Me: “I started riding flatland when I was 13
years old after I saw it in the X-Games on TV. I
used to tape it so I could later try to figure out
how to do the tricks. I didn’t start learning the
basics until I met Chris Balles (Texas Flatland
Roundup Producer) while he was riding one day
at a park in San Marcos near my home. I was
BLOWN AWAY by flatland in person and I
immediately started practicing daily by myself
after school. When I got the Ruben Castillo “GT
Show” pro flatland bike model in 1999 I became
even more committed. By then I had talked my
mom into driving me to Austin so I could ride with
my new flat friends, EZ Chris and a guy named
Owen. That’s also where I met Ruben Castillo.
These guys had a great influence on me and still
do- they keep me motivated to progress! Upon
entering in my first flatland contest, I realized how
talented the competition was and I became even
more motivated to learn tricks. In contests
nowadays I don’t focus on winning as much as
landing my tricks and entertaining the crowd. I
continue riding for fun, to progress and to support
the sponsors who have supported me. I also want
riders to recognize that ATX is a place where
flatland is alive and progressive- we have one of
the best flatland scenes in the world!”
